Turn in a homework assignment late?

Pull an all-nighter before an exam?

Start studying...then somehow end up watching YouTube, scrolling Instagram, and replying to texts?

Yeah...I've been there too.

You tell yourself you'll check one notification.

Then one video becomes five.

Before you know it, two hours are gone.

If procrastination keeps stealing your study time, today's tool might be exactly what you need.

You BEFORE reading this newsletter 😂

Tool of the Week: Freedom

Freedom is a productivity app that blocks the digital distractions constantly pulling you away from your work.

Instead of relying on willpower to avoid opening TikTok "for just a minute," Freedom removes the temptation entirely.

You choose what gets blocked:

  • Instagram

  • TikTok

  • Reddit

  • YouTube

  • Discord

  • Games

  • News websites

  • Even your entire internet connection if you really need to lock in.

As I'm writing this newsletter, Freedom is currently blocking:

  • Reddit

  • YouTube

  • X

  • Instagram

  • Discord

Every time I instinctively try opening one of those websites, I'm greeted with a block screen instead.

It's honestly surprising how often your brain tries to open distractions without you even realizing it.

Freedom Locked Screen whenever I go on a distraction.

But first, a quick word from our sponsor!

This week’s sponsor: Tabs

How AI-Era Pricing Is Reshaping Finance Operations

Usage-based and hybrid pricing models are changing how B2B companies generate revenue — and creating new headaches for the finance teams behind them.

Tabs co-founder Rebecca Schwartz and PwC Partner Amit Dhir sat down to unpack exactly what that means in practice: how pricing model decisions ripple into revenue recognition, forecasting, and financial ops — and what it takes to scale without piling on manual work.

Watch the on-demand recording to get practical frameworks, real-world examples, and a clear path to operationalizing usage-based revenue — including a forward-looking take on how AI will reshape financial workflows. If your team is navigating pricing complexity heading into the back half of the year, this is worth an hour.

5 Features you MUST try out

1. Block Every Device At Once

One of the easiest ways to procrastinate is switching devices.

You block TikTok on your laptop...

...then immediately grab your phone.

Freedom fixes this by syncing your blocking sessions across every device.

Compatible with:

  • Mac

  • Windows

  • iPhone

  • iPad

  • Android

  • Chromebook

  • Linux

Perfect for: Students who constantly switch between their laptop and phone

2. Block Websites, Apps, or the entire Internet

Block as many or as little apps and websites as you need.

It can be anything ranging from:

  • Social media (Instagram, TikTok, X, Reddit)

  • YouTube

  • Streaming services

  • Games

  • Messaging apps

  • News sites

  • Individual desktop applications

And if you’re really struggling to focus, you can temporarily disable internet access.

Perfect for: Anyone who opens Social Media without thinking

3. Locked Mode

Let's be honest.

Most of us would simply press "End Session" after twenty minutes.

Locked Mode removes that option.

Once enabled:

You can't freely end the session.

You can't remove blocked websites.

You can't disable Locked Mode.

You only get one emergency override every seven days.

Without Locked Mode

  • Start a 3-hour study session

  • Get bored after 20 minutes

  • End session

  • Open TikTok

With Locked Mode

  • Start a 3-hour study session

  • Get bored after 20 minutes

  • Can't end the session

  • Can't unblock TikTok

  • Either use your one emergency override...or keep studying.

Perfect for: Chronic procrastinators or anyone who always quits studying early

4. Recurring Focus Schedule

Instead of remembering to start a timer every day, Freedom can do it for you.

Examples:

  • Every weekday from 8:00–11:00 AM

  • Every evening from 7:00–10:00 PM

  • During work hours

  • During finals week

Once your schedule begins, distractions disappear automatically.

No extra clicks required.

Perfect for: Students trying to build a consistent study habit

5. Focus Sounds

Need some background noise?

Freedom includes focus sounds and ambient music designed to help you stay locked in.

Try different options until you find what works best for you.

Some people prefer rain.

Others like coffee shop sounds.

Personally, I work best with simple ambient music.

Perfect for: Anyone distracted by roommates or noisy environments

How I’d Use it During Finals Week

If I had finals tomorrow, here's what I'd do.

  1. Block all social media & distractions.

  2. Turn on Locked Mode.

  3. Play some ambient music.

  4. Schedule a 2-hour focus session.

  5. Put my phone across the room.

  6. Study until Freedom unlocks everything.

Should You Try It?

If procrastination keeps costing you hours every week, I'd genuinely recommend giving Freedom a shot.

Even one focused study session might surprise you with how much you actually get done.
